NEW YORK, Oct. 1, 2025 - Yahoo Sports and the National Basketball Association (NBA) are teaming up to launch Yahoo Fantasy High Score, a brand new, simpler way for fans to play season-long fantasy basketball.
Yahoo Fantasy High Score, an official season-long fantasy game of the NBA, features smaller team rosters, a simplified scoring system, and seamless roster management.
Overview of High Score and how it works:
- Smaller Team Rosters: In High Score, teams have a ten-player roster and a six-player starting lineup (two guards, three frontcourt players, one sixth man), enabling simpler “start/sit” decisions and giving fans the ability to start their top players.
- Simplified Scoring: High Score features head-to-head weekly scoring. A team’s weekly score is determined by the fantasy points (a combination of points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks) that each starter generates. Importantly, only the highest scoring performance from each of the six starters counts towards a team’s weekly score. For example, if your starting guard plays three games in a week – totaling 45, 38, and 41 fantasy points, respectively – only the 45-point fantasy performance will count towards your team’s weekly score. In addition, there are no negative points or decimals in the scoring to keep things extra simple.
- Seamless Roster Management: Thanks to the simplified scoring system, fans only need to set their lineups once a week. No matter if a player has two games or four games in a week, only one score – the highest score – per starter counts toward your weekly match-up. However, mid-week changes to your lineup must be made wisely. Benching a player at any point during the week permanently removes his high score from your team’s total score.

“We’ve partnered with the NBA to make fantasy basketball more approachable for fans who are new to it or short on time,” said Ryan Spoon, President of Yahoo Media Group. “Yahoo Fantasy High Score is simple to understand, easy to play, and all about what makes the NBA great – big stars, big moments, and big action.”
“We are thrilled to partner with Yahoo on High Score, designed to bring fans even closer to the game by making fantasy basketball more accessible and engaging,” said Eric Rimsky, NBA Head of Domestic Fantasy & Betting. “A new, streamlined format lets fans focus on the excitement of NBA action and star performances, while spending less time managing lineups.”
